In almost eighty years since the emergence of first television which had a blurry black and white picture, television has come a long way. Latest technology provides high-definition images with life like realism. Looking at the advancement in recent years one can only imagine what the future holds for us.

It was in 1954 when first colour television was launched commercially by RCA. At that time the NTSC standard was used for the transmission of colour television. Gradually in 1950s, new architecture was introduced which gradually replaced the vacuum tube chassis to more solid state components.

In 1960s colour television became very popular and remote control units were also introduced. Then in 1970s VCR came, which gave new dimension to the television viewers. VCRs had the capability to record and playback videotapes which instantly became a hit. 1980s saw the arrival for cable TV boxes which replaced TV antennas. Cable TV offered scores of channels to view. After the advent of cable TV, few would argue that next big thing has been the high definition television (HDTV).
